The Kozhim

The river Kozhim is one of the basic inflows of the river Kosju. Mostly both these rivers flow on territory of national park Jugyd Va. The Kozhim originates from slopes of mountain Kozhim-Iz (960 meters) and floats by the ridge of the Sana-Iz and hills of Rossomaha, Maldynyrd, Western Saledy, Maldyiz and Obeiz. The river is long enough - 202 kilometers. Upper reaches of the Kozhim express mountain character - small river is fast and flows through a stony narrow gorge no more than 20-25 meters width. The flow of the Kozhim river is very rapid since the gradient makes about 4 meters on a kilometer. For tourists and water geologists the Kozhim is very interesting since its channels have many large stones of different shapes at the bottom, breakers and small island stones. Each more or less significant rapid has a proper name among which the most dangerous is Manjuku its rapid reaches 5th category of complexity (it is located in a kilometer below the Balbanju entry). Also Kozhim is famous for its record quantity of island stones. All of them are very beautiful and picturesque.

The river Kozhim
For tourists with good sport preparation The river Kozhim will be interesting as a rafting route that begins from the Sanvozh base (it is still the river Balbanju which runs into the Kozhim) right on this site one can meet the most dangerous rapids and breakers (up to 3rd category of complexity). The alloy on this site of the Kozhim takes a lot of time since the passage of all these rapids requires frequent stops, investigations and checks of the route. Besides, this site of the Kozhim could be very interesting because of radial exits to adjoining mountains and tops. So if one desire it is possible to visit the Sana-Iz mountain (1423 meters), mountain the Kolokol (1407 meters), the Varsanofjeva mountain (1539 meters) and the well-known mountain Narodnaya (the highest top of the Ural Mountains - 1896 meters). For those who value and adore ethnographic tourism it will be interesting to visit the sacred mountain Erkusej, sacred for Manci nation. Beside of it at the very entry of the river Balbanju (on the left coast) there is a historical and archaeological monument - settlement of ancient people of The Bronze Age Era.

Cliffs on the river Kozhim
From the point where the Limbekoju flows into the Kozhim you can observe the most beautiful and picturesque part of your water voyage. Right this point of the tour along the Kozhim can be recommended as a perfect alloy for family tourism. For people who prefer rambling or want to change alloys tours for mountain tracking Krasnyy Kamen would be a perfect choice (1107 meters). Rafting lower you will get to the natural boundary Kajuknyr where the channel of the Kozhim extends and looks more like a lake or a pond. Here is the cordon of the national park "Jugyd Va".

The Subpolar Ural Mountains and the river Kozhim
Travelling along the Kozhim will be interesting for people keen on geology since it is possible to track all history of the Ural Mountains printed on cliffs. And it's not mere chance that during Soviet period all union geological seminars (cliffs on the river are still enumerated by geologists) were held on the Kozhim. It would be also very interesting that both Arctic and European grayling harbor are located in the Kozhim River. Unfortunately recently grayling fishing was categorically prohibited and furthermore fishing on the territory of the national park Jugyd Va. There are chars and salmons except for grayling here in the Kozhim harbor.
