The Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of the oldest opera theatres in Russia. The City Theatre opened its first season in 1912. Rich traditions of private non-repertory and touring companies, musical societies, well-known since the middle of the XIX century, helped the Theatre to gain confidence and its glorious name. He was called the Laboratory of Soviet opera, and often in the playbill neck appeared the right that the first production belongs to the Theater. Throughout the years outstanding masters have worked there. Many singers, including Sergey Lemeshev, Ivan Kozlovskiy, Irina Arkhipova and others, who later made the glory of the Russian stage, started in Yekaterinburg.

The Kolyada Theater was founded in 2001. Originality, unique style and new interpretation of the classic distinguish this theatre. The work of the theatre had already been highly estimated by the professionals - among the winnings of the Kolyada-theater actors are "Bravo!" awards of Yekaterinburg division of the theatre workers Society, the award of the Governor of Sverdlovsk region "For the prominent achievements in literature and culture". The Theatre performances are very popular.

The Sverdlovsk Drama Theater was opened on Oct. 2, 1930 with the play "The First Horse" written by Wishniewski. In 1977 the theater was awarded the title "Academic". In the 80th years creative lineup of the theater was almost completely renewed. Today in the playbill of the Sverdlovsk Drama Theater there are more than 20 titles. In addition, since 1996, the Sverdlovsk drama holds annual theatrical celebration called Beginning of summer. On large and small theater stages take place parades of Premiers and the performances-" long-livers", creative evenings of actors, directors, artists and other creative specialists. Many of them are winners of various competitions, received honors and were awarded by different premiums.

The Yekaterinburg Young People's Theatre. A professional troupe works here. Artists of the theater won for several times Award of the Union of theatrical figures for the Best Actor of the year, and directors - for the best performance of the year. Virtually all the performances are sold out. The theater's repertoire always includes performances for all age groups. Since 1990 the Yekaterinburg Young People's Theatre and the Ministry of culture of Russia hold the All-Russian Drama Festival for Children and Youth. Since 1992 the theatre goes on tour abroad at least twice a year.

The Sverdlovsk State Academic Philharmonic Hall. In many ways the musical life of Yekaterinburg is today determined by the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra and the main troupe of the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic, which was recognized as the best in Russia. At its base annually are held prestigious music festivals with the participation of leading Russian and foreign performers. Creative Philharmonic communications cover literally the entire world.

The Sverdlovsk Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy was founded in 1933. Since that time the theatre grew into unique cultural heritage of the Sverdlovsk region and the Urals and was included into the Russian Golden Fund of Culture. Today, the very talented troupe performs there. The theatre also has a professional ballet troupe, a large choir, a large symphony orchestra, and an ensemble of folk instruments. The theatre has its own school of singing and choreography for children. The school is a winner of International Festival. Pupils perform at the studio theater, taking part in children's and adult performances. In the repertoire of the Yekaterinburg Musical Comedy is widely available classic operetta.

Yekaterinburg Puppet Theatre is the one of the leading theaters of the genre, not only in Russia but also in Europe. The International Association of puppet theaters in UNESCO (UNIMA) believes the Yekaterinburg Puppet Theater one of the most distinguished members. The theater regularly hosts international puppet theater festival Malachite Box, or Parsley Great, Puppet Theatre holds magic shows for children, and often becomes a venue for contemporary dance productions. The Museum of theatrical puppets is held theatrical tours and you can celebrate birthdays, holidays in it.

The Little Drama Theatre "Teatron" was established in 1987 and became famous at once. The first play that was staged in the theatre was Under the roof by the play of Razumovskaya. The theatre tries different trends including esthetics of a street theatre, folklore. Every theater season means new projects for children, tours around Russia, festival trips.

The Volkhonka Theatre was established in 1986. It united around various creative teams of the city. The theatre presents performances, undertakes tours and is engaged in charity. It is a cozy chamber theatre with 30 seats-hall and mini caf? on the second floor. The repertoire includes almost 20 plays. The troupe consists entirely of graduates from the Ural drama school.

Ural Writers' Chamber Theatre has its own, quite an extraordinary story of the ideological, architectural design, construction and creative development. The official opening date of the theater - December 15, 1998. Auditorium capacity was made for 150 spectators, there is an orchestral loge. The viewer will enjoy performances of Chamber Orchestra B-A-C-H and classic chorus-Aurora.

The "Nutcracker" Ballet's Theatre for Children. Inspirer and creator of the Municipal Children's Ballet Theatre "Nutcracker" became a teacher and choreographer Michael Kogan. On November 17, 1988 at the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet was performed the first its premiere of "The Mukha-Tsokotukha" play. Also work of a troupe provoked interest outside of Yekaterinburg. In the summer of 1994 with a great success was performed ballet "The Snow Queen" at the scene of the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow. Program of "Choreographic Miniatures" the theater showed in the summer of 1995 in the Italian city of Rimini. In 1996 were organized tours of the Nutcracker in San Jose, USA.

Theatre "Provincial Dances" was founded in 1990. The plays synthesize choreography, movement and theater arts, creating the unique and easy for recognizing style. Over 15 years of its existence, Provincial Dances Theatre has occupied the place of one of the best bands of modern dance in Russia, it became known both in Russia and internationally as an original avant-garde dance troupe. It performed plays on the prestige stages of the Alexandrinskiy Theatre and the Hermatage Theater in Saint-Petersburg, the Theatre of Mossoviet, the Maliy Theater and the Meerkhold's Center in Moscow, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Dancens Hus in Stockholm, The Place in London, the Auditorium in Rome, the National Theatre in Bangkok, the Opera Haus in Bonn, the Tanzhaus in Dusseldorf. The "Provincial Dances" is a regular participant of Russian and international theatre, music and choreography festivals and theatre projects.

 The "Reviving" dolls theatre was opened on June 30 at the Museum of History of Yekaterinburg. It is the only children's puppet theater, which performs mechanical dolls with electronic control. Every fairy tale character has its own voice, its own music and light, which allows the viewer to understand characters of the personages, as well as the idea of the performance 'Miraculous modifications in the Marzipaniya country". Its main advantage is an unprecedented fusion of modern technology with traditional for Russian culture fairy-tale characters. Currently the "Reviving" dolls theatre is located and performing in the Museum of the History of Yekaterinburg.
